Designed to provide gentle comfort, the Harmony includes several features to help make pumping a more enjoyable experience. First, the contoured, ergonomically designed handle fits easily in your hand. The handle also swivels, giving you the freedom to position your hand and then pump more comfortably on each breast. The Harmony also comes with a SoftFit breast shield to softly massage the breast while you pump.
Two-Phase Expression Technology
Designed to feel more like your baby than any other manual pump, the Harmony features two-phase expression technology, an advanced pumping pattern that mimics a baby's natural nursing rhythm.
This system works in two modes: the simulation mode and the expression mode. The simulation mode simulates your baby's initial rapid sucking to start your milk flowing, while the expression mode simulates your baby's slower, deeper suckling to express your milk gently yet efficiently. These modes work together to make pumping a quick and painless process.
Convenient, Safe and User-Friendly Design
Medela knows that busy moms don't have the time or patience to struggle with complicated parts or to wait for the pump to stimulate milk flow. That's why the Harmony is designed for faster let-down.
Additionally, this one-piece unit features fewer pieces to assemble and clean than traditional manual pumps, making it a snap to start pumping when and where you need to. Most importantly, the Harmony is a safe and sanitary way to provide your baby with healthy breast milk--all parts that come into contact with breast milk are 100-percent BPA/DEHP free. For added convenience, this pump is also upgradeable to electric pumping with the use of the Symphony or the Lactina conversion kits (not included), and it is backed with a 30-day limited warranty.

Impressive for a manual (2010-05-27)
So i gotta tell ya: i'm a double electric/battery pump kinda mom but i have a job that occassionally requires me to leave for a few days. this time im going to be gone for 12 days leaving my 3 month old behind. im going to be out in the field more likely in tents the whole time and as much batteries as i bought for my PIS advance i gotta hava gotta have a back up plan. i searched manual pumps/read reviews and decided to give this one a try. the parts are compatible with my PIS. i tried it once at home to go along with the "pump every 3-4 hours" rule but i think the most i pumped was an ounce or 2. not very impressed. but then last night my baby slept 6 hours in the night leaving me fuller than a bucket collecting water from a leaky roof on a rainy day. i didnt feel like assembling the double electric so i decided to try this again. on one side i pumped out 4.5 oz in 7 minutes. wow i say.
so in conclusion for me anyway, its good for when im really full with a good amount, instead of pumping 3-4 hrs its extremly well for 5-6. i like how its easy to use with one hand instead of it requiring 2 hands like a water pump pumping water from the ground. its easy to use, assemble and clean.
Good for a hand pump (2010-03-16)
Parts are compatible w/ my pump n style, which is nice. I also like the 2 levels of control. I wouldn't want to use this (or any hand pump) every day, but a great little hand pump and much nicer than a previous brand I owned.
Very good product. (2010-03-05)
I used it through out my nursing period for my second child. The best part is I dont have to depend on battery or electricity while using this and also the sound it makes is much lower than the battery operated one or the electric one.
I loved it. Only that I needed to replace it atleast 3times and the cost was a killer.
Great travel pump! (2010-02-25)
My husband bought this pump for me so I could sustain my milk while we were traveling. I was afraid I would dry up while being away from our baby. This pump is awesome! Great for traveling: relatively small, easy to put together and take apart, easy to clean and easy to use.
I made the mistake the first couple of times of pumping constantly which was a bit taxing on my hand and wrist. Then I figured out you don't have to do all that and that once your milk comes in, you can just have one continuous pump which extracts quite a bit of milk before you have to make the pumping motion again (if you're not sure what I mean, just read the directions and you'll get it.) It will save your hand and wrist a lot of trouble!
I strongly recommend this for moms that aren't able to use an electric pump. I have both but when I'm on the go, this pump is perfect.
Works well, but probably cannot replace the electric pump.. (2010-02-13)
I have a Medela Pump in Style and also used the hospital grade Medela Symphony. I read reviews on the Medela manual pump and many people commented that it replaced their electric pumps but I disagree. The manual pump worked well, but it is tiring on the hands. It pumped decent amount milk.
The kit came with all the parts shown in the picture plus a nipple and bottle cap. I didn't like the nipple; it was too soft and the milk flow was too fast for my 2 week old. My two week old actually choked on too much milk. I use Avent nipples and I like how the rubber is stiffer; it's conducive to strengthening jaw muscles.
Overall, I think the Medela manual pump is a good complement to a faster electric pump. It's good when you're outside.
