The Freestyle is unique among breast pumps because it offers you the freedom to do other things while you're pumping. The hands-free operation is user-friendly and doesn't demand the use of complicated contraptions or accessories. And because it weighs less than one pound, it's a snap to take this pump to work or on trips--simply toss it into your purse or the cute included tote bag and you're ready to go.
Two-Phase Expression Technology
The Freestyle features two-phase expression technology, an advanced pumping pattern that mimics a baby's natural nursing rhythm. This system works in two modes: the simulation mode and the expression mode. The simulation mode simulates your baby's initial rapid sucking to start your milk flowing, while the expression mode simulates your baby's slower, deeper suckling to express your milk gently yet efficiently. These modes work together to make pumping a quick and painless process.
Comfortable and Convenient Operation
Convenient and easy to use, the Freestyle has a rechargeable battery that allows for three full hours of pumping time per charge. This battery also makes it a snap to pump in places--like airports or other public spaces--where outlets may be difficult to find.
The clear and easy-to-read LCD screen has a digital display that lights up, a feature that's particularly welcome during late-night feeding sessions. There's even a memory button so moms can save their favorite pumping patterns for use during future sessions. Finally, the valves and tubes are uncomplicated and simple and straightforward to use.
The Freestyle comes with four five-ounce containers and lids for safe and hygienic breast milk storage, another great on-the-go option. For added peace of mind, the Freestyle is backed by a 1-year limited on the motor, and a 90-day limited warranty on the other parts.

Great experience with freestyle pump with nicu baby and pumping exclusively (2010-05-23)
My baby was born almost six weeks early and was not able to latch/nurse early on. I used the medela symphony during the first few days when I was still in the hospital. When I came home and my son was still in the NICU I started using the medela freestyle. I felt that it was comparable to the $1500 hospital pump. My son is now at home and doing great. The freestyle allowed me to keep my supply up despite my son's nursing problems. He has been receiving breast milk exclusively. I use the freestyle to pump several times a day and it is easy to use and effective enough to keep up my supply. I am able to pump enough for my baby to drink from bottles during the day and night as well as store extra breastmilk in the freezer. I definitely recommend this pump for moms who want/need to pump exclusively or even just occasionally since it is so small and convenient.
great pump! (2010-05-20)
I bought this pump to use when I went back to work after my first child. It works really well- takes me about 7-8 minutes to express for my 4 month old. There are two small things that bother me though; it's a little noisier than I would have wanted, and the straps are really really annoying to hook up! I am currently waiting to receive a hands free pumping bra and I hope that will work better. The straps do work once they're all hooked up but it takes a good 2+ minutes to get them attached properly. I would foresure recommend this pump to anyone though!
One Year In, Still Thrilled With This Little Pump! (2010-05-20)
I researched pumps like crazy before settling on this one.
PROS
1. It works. And is powerful- I've never used higer than 7 (it goes to 10) and have had good results. I'd heard some complaints about the noise, and while this thing isn't silent, it's about the same as the others I hear in the lactation room at work. And you can throw it under a blanket or a pillow at home to muffle it- I can easily watch tv or have a conversation while I pump.
2. The size. Working full time and commuting by public transport, I really didn't want to drag 2 bags to work each day. This pump, the cooler, and all the bits I need fit inside a small lululemon bag, which fits inside my normal work bag, with room for lunch and other odds and ends.
3. The included hands free system- it's clunky, but it works, and is a necessity for double pumping. Buying a bustier to hold on a cheaper pump adds $30, so this helps justify the cost.
4. The convenience of a rechargable battery pack. The charge lasts a week, and I can pump anywhere, everywhere. (and believe me, you will)
5. Medela customer service- sent me a new hands free system free of charge when I lost one of the small pieces.
6. The digital display is handy, for gaguing how my flow is doing, and for keeping track of how long it takes.
CONS
1. The only complaint I have is the cover to the battery-- it occasionally slides off. And if the battery itself comes loose, the unit demands to be recharged for about 20 hours before it's happy. You can still use it with the power cord of course, but I'd like to see the battery cover locked more firmly in place.
Worth every cent. Amazing small but strong pump. Dont buy anything else! (2010-05-08)
After doing much research into breast pumps I purchased the Freestyle. I rented the Medela Lactina Select with the last two kids and this time decided I wanted to purchase a pump because I planend on pumping exclusively. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this pump and highly recommend it to anyone.
PROS:
Strong suction with many different levels to choose from. Dont let the size fool you.
Lightweight and portable. I throw this pump in my diaper bag, it is that small. Easy to take with you. It comes with a great carrying bag but so far I havent used it because I have an awesome diaper bag that fits everything and the kitchen sink in it (Skip Hop - Duo Double Deluxe).
No need to plug anything in! Rechargable batteries that hold their charge for over 3 hours. The battery is quick to charge back up too. You can use the plug in option but I never do. It is so nice to be able to pump in the car, at the computer, folding clothes, or reading. I just take it wherever I need to be and clip it on my belt and pump away. I highly recommend the Pump Ease hands free bra though. I couldnt figure out the hands free clips that came with the pump and they didnt feel very sturdy anyway. I dont want to risk losing any breastmilk. I bought the pump ease hands free bra on ebay for 18.00 and it works like a charm.
CONS:
It has a fairly obnoxious noise to it when pumping. It is fairly loud and you certainly can be heard from the next room. Sounds like a groaning/mooing sick cow. Which makes me laugh every time I hear it because I feel like a cow being milked when I hook up but that is neither here nor there :) I am just sayin'. You won't be using this at the movie theater or church.
NO other issues.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this pump. It is worth every penny and I would buy it again with no hesitation.
